As well as a love of music I’ve always had a passion for nature and conservation, something that led me to discover Little Toller Books, a small, independent publisher based in West Dorset whose work is “attuned to writers and artists who seek inventive ways to reconnect us with the natural world and to celebrate the places we live in”.

Orison for a Curlew, a new book by journalist, radio producer and an acclaimed author Horatio Clare, is being crowdfunded to enable Little Toller to cover the costs of printing, and to commission the young and very talented artist Bea Forshall to create illustrations for the book. The book is about Horatio Clare’s journey across Europe in search of the Slender-billed curlew, Numenius tenuirostris, ‘the slim beak of the new moon’, is one of the world’s rarest birds. Watch the video below:

This is a story of beauty and the struggles of conservation. It is a homage to a creature that may never be seen again.

There are some great rewards for those pledging support including signed copies, hand-bound books, limited edition artist prints and even a wild walk with Horatio Clare and a night in Dorset!
